Punctuation Changes Everything

So I was reading through some internet comics and happened upon this one from explosm.net. It relates to our class so I figured I'd post it.  Now my only question is, why is she talking to cats and dogs? Or I guess more accurately shouldn't it be, It's raining CAT and dogs! Since there is only one cat she is talking to. I guess I'm reading too much into a comic of a stick figure, but thats just me.

  1. I talk to my cats and dogs... I don't have to tell them it's raining though, they just know and then start shaking if it thunders.

  2. Haha.. it didn't even occur to me that she said cats plural instead of cat singular until I read your commentary. I remember reading some online comic that was all about the different meanings sentences can have just because of punctuation. People need to be aware of their grammar!

  3. Punctuation definitely does contribute to the meaning of a sentence. This comic is quite funny.
